Careful diagnosis. Honest answers.
Home machines and family heirlooms. I'll tell you what went wrong, what it costs, and how to keep it running well.
What I repair
From a machine that just won't sew straight to one that won't turn on at all.
Timing & skipped stitches
Jammed, out-of-time hooks and needle bars, skipped stitches, and thread nests underneath.
Worn & broken parts
Replacing worn gears, belts, feed dogs, bobbin cases, and other parts that have given out. Parts have to be ordered, and some are discontinued or sold only through dealers. I'll research availability once I've diagnosed the machine, then let you know what's possible before any repair work begins.
Motors & electrical
Dead motors, bad foot controls, wiring faults, and boards that act up.
Cleaning & tune-ups
Full clean, oil, and adjustment so a machine that's still good stays good.
Bench checks & diagnosis
Not sure what's wrong? I'll track down the cause, opening the machine up if I need to, and explain it before any repair work begins. Some problems are sneaky and take time to track down, so I won't rush a diagnosis.
Heirloom & vintage
Older machines handled with extra care, because some of them can't be replaced.
How it works
Straightforward, with the price agreed before any work begins.
Tell me the problem
Send the make, model, and what it's doing.
Diagnosis
I find the real cause, opening the machine up if needed, and explain it in plain language.
Clear quote
You hear the cost up front and decide. No work happens without your OK.
Repair & advice
Fixed, tested, and returned with tips to prevent a repeat.
Pricing
Every machine is different, so I price after I've seen it. You'll always know the cost before I start repairs.
Bench check
$35 – $50
I look the machine over to find the problem. Sometimes the cause is obvious, and sometimes I need to open the machine up. Then I explain what it needs.
Clean & repair
Usually $75 – $130
Depends on the machine and its issues. Older machines tend to cost less. Parts, if needed, are extra. The bench check fee isn't included, so you can skip it if you only want a clean and repair. You'll get a clear quote first.
Drop-off & timing
Getting your machine to me and how long it takes.
Getting it to me
Drop-off and pickup are arranged with each customer. Send a request and we'll work out what's easiest.
How long it takes
It varies with the machine and whether parts need to be ordered. Sneaky problems take longer. I'll give you a realistic idea once I've looked at it.
About Elijah
Hi, I'm Elijah Clausman. I've been repairing sewing machines since 2024, when I started working alongside my brother, a certified Bernina sewing machine technician, at University of Sewing, a trusted dealership. Since then I've fixed around 300 machines, diagnosing everything from home machines with jammed timing and worn parts to electrical and motor problems, often on tight deadlines. I've also trained another technician in the trade.
I like fixing things the right way the first time. I'll explain what went wrong, what it costs to fix, and how to keep your machine running well, with no surprises. Whether it's a family heirloom or a machine you rely on every day, I'll treat it with care.
Outside the repair bench, I'm a Professional Flight student at Ivy Tech Columbus, training to become a pilot. Flying has taught me the same thing repair work has: careful checklists and attention to detail matter.
